The first round of the UTE-CAT Sri Lanka Open Golf Championship 2012 produced excellent scores, with Vijitha Bandara and Tissa Chandradasa shooting 5-under par each to share the lead after day one.
B.G. Lalith Kumara showed off his ‘brilliance-of-old’ to return a 4 under par 67 and is in third place. TATA Open Champ and previous winner of the Sri Lanka Open Mithun Perera shot a 3 under par 68 along with reigning amateur champion N. Thangaraja, another previous winner M. Amarapathma, and B.A. Rohana.
Senior citizen G. Harrison continued his consistency with a 2 under par 69 to stand alone in eighth place. Defending champ Anura Rohana, and K. Prabagaran shared ninth place on 1 under par. RCGC pro Jehan De Saram came in 22nd place with a 4 over par, while multiple winner of SLGU Open Nandasena Perera was in 24th place on 5 over par. The UTE-CAT Challenge Trophy with 21 entries from amateur members promised much and Sheron Fernando led the field with a gross score of 77, two strokes ahead of W.A.K. Fernando.
The UTE-CAT Sri Lanka open Championship, sponsored by United Tractor & Equipment (Pvt.) Ltd. and co-Sponsored by CML MTD Constructions Ltd. and Heladiv (HVA Foods), is interestingly poised going into round two.
