Veluwana clinches Asian Finance Trophy

Western Province Rugby Development 7-a-side tournament

Veluwana M/V Col 5 clinched the Asian Finance Trophy in grand style by beating President’s College Rajagiriya 20 points (four tries) to 7 (one goal). The game was played at the Royal Sports Complex on 15 July.

The try scorers for Veluwana were Dilantha, Anusha, Shakila and Eresh while for President’s College the only try scorer was Vihanga.

A total of 130 participants from 13 Rugby Development Schools from the Western Province took part in this 7-a-side Rugby tournament which was sponsored by Asian Finance and organised by Western Province Rugby Development headed by Shamrath Fernando (Chairman R/Development Committee) and assisted by Coordinator N.J. Mudannayaka.

The Chief Guest was SLRFU Vice President Lasitha Gunarathne.

Results:

Plate Mahanama College Panadura beat Kothalawala M/M/V Col 5 by 10 points to 5

Bowl Mahamathaya M/V Col 5 beat Hindu College Col 4, 21 points to nil

Shield Dharmaloka College Kelaniya beat Uggalbodl M/V Kaluthara 46 points to nil

Saucer Jayakodi M/V Kelaniya beat Jayawardana Pura Kotte 21 points to nil.
