The Sri Lanka Open Golf Championship 2012, organised by the Sri Lanka Golf Union will tee-off at the Royal Colombo Golf Club, commencing today to 7 December.
UTE-CAT are the principal sponsors of the Open Championship and a field of 60 will face the starter. The pre-qualifying round was conducted yesterday to complete the 60 strong field of pro and amateur Golfers.
There were 73 players from all the affiliate golf clubs who will vie for the 15 qualifying spots for the Open starting today.
Sashikumar, a reputed golfer from Royal Colombo returned the best card of 72 (1 over par) out of the qualifiers with the top 15 making it to the Championship with three players tied on 83. Significantly, four RCGC member amateurs also qualified for the Open whilst holding an entry for the UTE-CAT Challenge Trophy as well. The UTE-CAT Challenge Trophy has 21 entries including last year’s winner, S. Vairavanathan.
The 60 strong field for the UTE-Cat Sri Lanka Open will feature the top Sri Lankan pros including defending champion Anura Rohana, Mithun Perera winner of the Tata Open on the Indian Tour last week, K. Pragaran, Tissa Chandradasa, RCGC Club professional Jehan De Saram, Lalith Kumara, seven time champion Nandasena Perera and the reigning amateur champion Thangaraja. There will be a cut off after the first two rounds and only 40 players will compete in the four rounds.
