Trinity College’s Under 17 cricketers beat St. Sylvester’s College by 195 runs, in their inter-school Under 17 cricket encounter, which was played at the Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy.
Batting first, Trinity scored 309 runs and shot out the Sylvestrians for just 114.
The highlight of the match was some fine batting from Trinitian Shanogeeth Shanmuganathan, who struck an elegant 67, which helped him pass 500 runs this season in the Under 17 segment. He is currently this season’s highest run-scorer. Left-arm leg spinner Sashmitha Waidyathilake not only bowled well for Trinity, capturing 5 for 16, but also scored an unbeaten 42.
Trinity 309 for 8 in 50 overs (Shanogeeth Shanmuganathan 67, Hasintha Jayasooriya 41, Hasitha Boyagoda 32, Sashmitha Waidyathilake 42 not out, T. Banugan 39 not out, V. Yasmintha 4 for 42, T Sivakumar 2 for 58).
Sylvester’s 114 all out in 27.4 overs (V. Wickramasinghe 40, K Herath 18, Rasmitha Dilshan 2 for 20, Sasmitha Waidyathilake 5 for 16)
Meanwhile, in another Under 17 encounter, St. John’s College Jaffna defeated St. Anthony’s College Katugastota in their Division I clash, played at the St. John’s College grounds in Jaffna yesterday.
St. Anthony’s were all out for 175 in 47.2 overs, while St. John’s Jaffna put up 178 for 9 on the board in 49.2 overs.
