Fun, enjoyment and happiness befitting an Independence Day celebration took centre stage with ample excitement, brotherhood and bonhomie provided by the sports carnival, organised by the High Commission of Malaysia together with the Malaysian Association of Sri Lanka.

The three events were badminton, bowling and golf. The Sports Festival was held on 30 September at Prima Taste Restaurant, Rajagiriya, with Malaysian High Commissioner Azim Zainudeen gracing the occasion. The Chief Guest was a famous Sri Lankan sports personality Zen Dharmaratne who is a national golfer of repute.
Of the three sports events, the most prominent which drew massive interest was the Golf Tournament conducted at the Royal Colombo Golf Club. Over 70 eager competitors took their aim opening the competition with much fanfare and applause. Their individual skills sustained the thrill throughout the course. Maximising the thrill factor of this event was the fantastic prize offered to the winner by kind courtesy of TKS Group comprising of TKS Finance and Asian Finance – a superb opportunity of participating in the World Amateur Golf Tournament, to be held in Malaysia and sponsored by Tourism Malaysia.
