Kasun Maduranga , Madusanka Hinduwela and Buddhika Manaram will be representing Sri Lanka at the Asian Junior Boxing Championships in Shymkent, Kazakhstan during 15 to 22 April 2013.
Coach Amila Aravinda and Manager and the Principal of Sumangala College Panadura, LW Somathilake will accompany the youngsters who will fight under the light fly 48kg, fly 51kg and bantam 56Kg weight categories respectively. The boxing championship is open to all Asian boxers within the age group of 15 and 16 years.
Maduranga was the winner of the Stubbs Shield in 2010, 2011 and 2012. He became the best boxer of the Stubbs Shield in 2012. He has also won gold at LV Jayaweera Boxing Meet in 2010 and the Junior Boxing Championships in 2012.
Madusanka was the winner of the L.V. Jayaweera meet in 2010 and 2011. He also won the TB Jayah Boxing Meet in 2010 in addition to the Stubbs Shield Boxing Championship in 2011. Both boxers represent Vidyarathana University College, Horana and have been coach by Amila Aravinda.
Buddhika has won gold medals at the TB Jayah Boxing Meet, the School Boy Championships and the Stubbs Shield Boxing Championships 2010. He also went on to win Gold at the Stubbs Shield in 2011.
He is a student of Kalyani Pradeepa Vidyarathana Vidyapitala, Delgoda and has been coached by Indika Senanayake a Coach from MAS Silueta. MAS Holdings under the patronage of Dian Gomes has been providing coaching facilities as for all these schools in order to produce the best boxers.
“This biennial competition organised by the Asian Confederation Association affords junior boxers in the age group of 15 to 16 years to experience a world class tournament which enables them to gain confidence and enhance their skills in preparation for professional boxing in the future,” Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka Honorary Secretary Mahesh Dahanayake said.
