Candidates vying for the president post of Sri Lanka’s cricket governing authority, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have handed over their nominations, Sports Ministry sources said.
Upali Dharmadasa, who headed the interim committee most recently until it was dissolved by the Sports Minister on November 14, is one of the candidates for the president post. His team includes K. Mathivanan and Asanga Seneviratne for vice president and H. Perera for deputy secretary.
Sumith Perera, president of of Baduraliya Cricket Club, has also handed in nominations to contest, the Director General of Sports Ranjani Jayakody has said. Meanwhile, former SLC President Parliamentarian Thilanga Sumathipala, who were to hand in nominations earlier has said that he is withdrawing from the race. Addressing media Sumathipala has said that members of his group will however contest for posts in the SLC. Meanwhile, former SLC Secretary Nishantha Ranatunga is contesting for the post of Secretary.
The election is scheduled for January 3, 2012 after postponing from December 27 due to sports laws.
