Rayudu thrilled at seeing team through to victoryA maiden ODI ton was nice, but guiding India to victory in the second ODI was its own reward, Ambati Rayudu said. Rayudu was promoted to No. 3, and having come into the middle in the seventh over, he was still at the crease in the 45th, to hit the winning runs. “I’m definitely happy that I got a hundred,” Rayudu said, “but for me personally, I don’t think three figures matters as such - it’s just about the team winning. When you play for India, whatever role that the team gives us, I’m just happy I can fulfil the role they have given me today. I think it’s all about performing your role, more than about landmarks of fifties and hundreds.” Rayudu and Shikhar Dhawan made 122 for the second wicket to form the bedrock of India’s chase. The pair began cautiously before accelerating systematically through the innings. “At the start we were just looking to get a partnership going after an early wicket, and we were picking and choosing our shots. It was not really planned as such, but we were motivated to see the team through. I was just trying to be safe and rotate the strike.” |
