The importance of captaincy

When a wicket falls nearing the close of a 50 over innings, the exposure to long handle users makes sense. However, it was pathetic to see that the end overs were given to inexperienced part time spinners instead of experienced pacies. What happened? South Africa slaughtered our bowlers and finally the captain got Lasith Malinga – again not the best of choice to stem the flow of runs. Nuwan Kulasekera would have been better, or the captain himself. Even field placing and the selection of bowlers at various times were not in our favour. It is a pity that the incumbent captain is consistently making mistakes which have resulted in a few instances of losing matches. I do trust the selectors will open their eyes and select the best available for the job – either Mahela or Sanga for the forthcoming world cup competition. Mineka
