Sri Lanka’s number one Amateur Golfer N. Thangaraja won the November Pin Fernando Grand Prix with 8 under par total of 276 for four rounds. In second place was Vijitha Bandara, who regained his old form with a 4 under par total of 280.
N. Thangaraja leads the Pin Fernando Grand Prix points table on 700 points. With 556 points M. Arumugam is placed second.
The Pin Fernando Grand Prix which was started in July 2011 is sponsored by Priath Fernando, the son of late Pin Fernando, who dominated the Sri Lanka Golf scene for three decades from the 1940s to the 1970s.
This Grand Prix has helped N. Thangaraja (who is not a member of any Golf Club in Sri Lanka) to become the 32nd best Amateur Golfer in the world, third in Asia and first in South Asia.
This Grand Prix also has helped all non member golfers in Sri Lanka to achieve world amateur rankings and given them an opportunity to play a 4-round tournament once a month. This tournament is open to all members and non member golfers in Sri Lanka and is conducted by the Sri Lanka Golf Union.
The December Pin Fernando Grand Prix will be played from 11 to 14 December 2012.
