Suwaris and Udangawa triumph at Janashakthi Open Squash Championships

Gihan Suwaris and Damindi Udangawa emerged Men’s and Women’s Open Winners at the recent eighth annual ‘Janashakthi Open Squash Championships’ conducted by the Sri Lanka Squash Federation (SLSF).

Organised for the eighth consecutive year, this National Ranking Tournament was worked off at the Gymkhana Club Squash Complex, Maitland Crescent, Colombo 7.

This year’s Championships featured some great squash and brilliant performances of a very high standard, especially with the participation of top ranked players, who were in readiness for the forthcoming Asian Games in China and after the recently concluded Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.

Chief Guest at the Finals, General Manager (Sales and Marketing) at Janashakthi Insurance PLC Ravi Liyanage presented the Championship Trophies to Gihan Suwaris and Damindi Udangawa, the Men’s and Women’s Open winners respectively.

President of the Sri Lanka Squash Federation Oliver Guruge said that this has been the most consistent of all of the Federation’s Open tournaments, with Janashakthi sponsoring it without a break since its inception in 2003.

He added that the SLSF was particularly grateful to Janashakthi. Head of Marketing at Janashakthi Insurance PLC Paddy Weerasekera, in turn, said that Janashakthi particularly was proud to partner the SLSF for an unbroken eight years and looked forward to a stronger relationship in the years to come.
