Standard Chartered official banker to Royal Thomian 2015

Standard Chartered once again signed up to partner the annual Royal Thomian cricket encounter as its official banker at an event held at the Sports Ministry Auditorium recently. The event was graced by Minister of Sports Navin Dissanayake and Deputy Minister of Sports and Tourism Vasantha Senanayake. This is the fourth consecutive year the bank has stepped forward to partner the event and the sponsorship cheque was handed over to the Warden, S. Thomas’ College and the Principal, Royal College. Sanjay Wijemanne, Head, Retail Clients, Standard Chartered speaking of the annual cricket encounter said: “This is the 136th ‘Battle of the Blues’ with a tradition almost as long as Standard Chartered. Cricket is such a huge part of our national identity and schoolboy cricket is the crucible in which we grow our talent. We believe that our support of this big match would in some way contribute to this effort and to inculcating strong values of good sportsmanship and leadership.” Standard Chartered representatives will be present at the match venue on all days to assist with any queries patrons may have, as well as infuse a sense of the bank’s own community investment agenda. Standard Chartered supports the stimulation of life and leadership skills among the youth by way of its Go Forward and Goal sustainability initiatives, which facilitate the access to career guidance, financial literacy, and health and hygiene information for underprivileged boys and girls around the island.
