SriLankan Airlines’ Asia Pacific Senior Golf Masters 2012 tee’s off on February 15th at the picturesque Rajawella golf links in Kandy.
Over 60 Professional Golfers and 30 amateurs, including leading local golfers will play during the three-day event at the Victoria Golf and Country Resort.
The participants will play on the 18-hole turf that is spread over 200 hectares with a breathtaking view of the Victoria reservoir.
Organised in collaboration with International Golf solutions, the tournament is another initiative of the national carrier in taking Sri Lanka to the world and seeks to promote Sri Lanka as a multi-attraction destination which offers discerning golfers a destination beyond just golden beaches, misty mountains and cultural heritage.
The tournament has so far attracted participants from countries in the South Asian sub-continent, Scandinavia, Middle East and the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Switzerland, China and Hong Kong.
SriLankan Airlines has over the years promoted Sports tourism in the country by sponsoring many events that focus on the destination; these being mainly Golf, Pro-Surfing and International Sevens Rugby.
With Sri Lanka targeting 2.5 million leisure travelers by 2016, the airline is aiming at supporting the governments’ tourism drive by attracting more upmarket visitors who are keen to sample niche sports events while enjoying a holiday.
The event will enable players and golf lovers the opportunity to take a quick trip on SriLankan Air taxi service that currently ferries passengers to Kandy via touch points at Polgolla and Victoria.
The float planes trims the three-hour Kandy road journey to just 30 minutes at very competitive rates.
SriLankan Airlines operates to 60 cities in 33 countries across the globe ...from Europe, Middle East and South Asia …to Southeast Asia, the Far East, Australia, North America and Canada.
