SriLankan Airlines Golf Classic, the signature corporate sports event of the airline, will take place from 17 to 19 October, at the 19-hole Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC).
The RCGC is the oldest golf club in Sri Lanka, and the second oldest Royal Golf Club outside the UK. Established in 1880, it was bestowed with the prefix ‘Royal’ by King George V in the 1920s. With its lush landscape and tranquil atmosphere, it is an ideal place to swing a club, while the colonial-style clubhouse will provide a welcome getaway after a day on the green.
The Golf Classic will start with a practice session on day one and conclude with an awards ceremony, followed by a gala dinner. Over 200 golfers from around the world are expected to participate. They will contest through a round each on days two and three, in the Gents’ and Ladies’ Gross and Nett Stableford Scores, Junior Division, Nearest to the pin, Longest Drive, Hole in One, and Overall Winner of the Tournament. Winners will be determined through points allocated over the two rounds. Prizes include air tickets to destinations around the world.
For the event, SriLankan Airlines is offering a range of special packages, from basic (inclusive of airfare, accommodation and transport), to personalised options. There are also post-event tours around Sri Lanka and to other clubs outside Colombo.
Participants can register through the official website until 5 October. (http://www.srilankangolfclassic.com). Details of the tour can be obtained from relevant golf clubs.
Air tickets and ground packages can be purchased through the SriLankan Airline’s office and travel agents. Ground packages can also be purchased through Lanka Sportreizen.
