The Sri Lanka Women’s outfit did well to win the cup at the Borneo Rugby Sevens worked off in Malaysia yesterday. In the cup finals Sri Lanka beat Thailand 12-5. Sri Lanka beat Malaysia while Thailand beat South Korea in the semi final stages.
The New Zealand Eagles won the cup while the bowl was won by Singapore with the Alabang Eagles securing the shield. The Sri Lankan men under Dhanushka Ranjan ended as the plate runners-up losing out to DBLK 33-15 in the plate final. Earlier in the day, they lost out to physical Hong Kong in the cup quarter finals 31-0. Sri Lanka and Hong Kong will be in the same group in next month’s Hong Kong Sevens at Hong Kong Stadium.
In the group stages on day one, Sri Lanka beat Cobra 40-0, Singapore 50-7 and lost to Tribets Sevens 24-19 and New Zealand eagles 35-12. (SJ)
