By Shamseer Jaleel Priya Hemantha and D. M. Pradeep have been selected to represent Sri Lanka at the 80th Singha Thailand Amateur Golf Championship, which will take place at the Panya Indra Golf Club in Bangkok from 9 to 12 September. Sixteen countries from Asia will participate in this tournament, including Asian golf powerhouses Japan, Taiwan and India. 26-year-old Priya Hemantha from Victoria Golf and Country Resort has represented Sri Lanka at the 2011 SAARC Golf Tournament, the Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championship in 2014 and the Pakistan Amateur Golf Championship in May 2014. He started his golf career at the age of 18. 22-year-old D.M.Pradeep from Sri Lanka Navy has represented Sri Lanka in the All India Amateur Golf Championship in December 2013. He started playing golf at the Victoria Golf & Country Resort when he was 16, before joining the Navy. This is the first time that golfers have been selected to play for Sri Lanka from the Victoria Golf and Country Resort. The Royal Colombo Golf Club has produced the majority of players on Sri Lankan teams since the mid-1960s. Their dominance has been reduced due to the support given by the Victoria Golf and Country Resort to its non-member golfers. Twenty-year-old S. Sashinathan, who is a reserve on this tour, is also from Victoria Golf and Country Resort.
