The Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka will be sending a rowing team to the 14th Asian Rowing Championships to be held in Hwacheon, Korea. The team comprising of three oarsmen and a manager will compete in the Men’s single sculls and lightweight men’s double sculls events at the regatta to be held from the 13th-17th October 2011. Over 20 Asian nations are expected to take part at the event.
Kushan Chandrakumara from the Sri Lanka Air Force will be rowing the single sculls event whilst Sajeev De Silva and Shehan Muthugala from the Colombo Rowing Club will represent the country in the double sculls event.
The selection of the crews were based on their performance at the recently concluded Sri Lanka Rowing Nationals and the Amateur Rowing Association is expecting the crews to perform well with the intention of sending a crew for the 2012 Olympic Qualification Regatta (Asian Region) to be held in April 2012 also in Korea.
The team will be captained by 2011 Asian Games Sculler Sajeev De Silva and John De Niese will accompany the team as Manager.
