Come July, Sri Lanka will see the best Sevens players in Sri Lanka and around the globe in action at the Sri Lanka Super Sevens 2017.
The first leg will be worked off on 8 and 9 July at the Nittawela grounds and the second leg on 15 and 16 July at Racecourse grounds.
The top eight franchises - Access Kings, Cargills Gladiators, Etisalat Panthers, EZY Wolves, KBSL Dragons, Softlogic Warriors, Mobitel Eagles and the Walkers Vipers - will battle it out for top honour in two groups. After the group encounter teams will be ranked and play in the Cup, Plate, Bowl and Shield segments on Day 2.
Sevens sensations from Fiji, New Zealand, Samoa, Kenya, South Africa and England are set to land in Sri Lanka next month for this Sevens tournament which will be a good yardstick to select the national Sevens team for the Asian Sevens 2017, which will kick off in Hong Kong during September. Former Fiji Sevens skipper and Navy player Steifano Cakoula already confirmed his participation at the event.
The Mobitel Eagles are the defending champions with Isipathana College holding on to the school trophy. The team with the most number of points at the end of the second leg will be awarded the Sri Lanka Super Sevens 2017. Trinity, St. Anthony’s, Kingswood, Dharmaraja, St. Joseph’s, St. Peter’s, Isipathana, Science, Wesley and Zahira will lock horns in the schools encounters.
Women’s teams from the Sri Lanka Army, Navy, Air Force and CR&FC will also play at the Sri Lanka Super Sevens tournament.
