Day two play saw brilliant play by Kyle De Silva who carded a two under par round of 69 gross to take the lead by 10 shots over Sachin De Silva who carded 79 gross. Development squad player Chanaka Perera improved on day two to score 81 gross. In the age group 15 -17 years – Gold division the three boys are also contending for top honors.
This year Sri Lanka Junior Open sponsored by Ceylon Agro Industries – Prima Group saw a high standard of golf and likely to see an exciting last days play at the Royal Colombo Golf Club under tough conditions with rains making the course long for most players and challenging.
The Bronze division age group category 10 years and under concluded with Vinod Weerasinghe of British School clinching the title with an aggregate score of 90 over 2 days play of 9 holes each. Arvind Hirdaramani of Colombo International School totaled an aggregate score of 99 to be runner up. Other prize winners were Yohan Rukmall 2nd runner up with 105, Ishira Umayanga 3rd runner up with 106 and 4th runner up Vinuk Welikela with 136 gross over two days.
In the Silver division age group 11 – 14 years Prashan Peiris of St Thomas Prep continued his top class performance with a second day score of 84 gross. Closely followed by consistant Zaffar Sikkandar of Bristish School with a gross score of 83. Much improvement was shown by Isihara Fernando on day two with a gross score of 85 to take 3rd place after round two of the Sri Lanka Junior open. Others in the category that show promise is Charya Kannangara 98 and Pravreeraj of Victoria Golf Club 97.
Much to be seen in the third and final day to be played on Wedensday. The outstation players from Kandy and Nuwara Eliya failed to impress at the national championship.
