The Government declared a week from 25 to 30 January as National Sports and Physical Fitness Week with a view to control Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) which is the leading cause of death in Sri Lanka.
The program, initiated on the instructions of President Maithripala Sirisena, aimed to introduce healthy living through sports and physical training as well as to popularise sports among the people so as to create a sports culture within the country.
Supporting the event, Sri Lanka Insurance organised a health aw areness and lifestyle modification program for staff on 27 January and a walk on the morning of 28 January with the theme ‘Sports for Fitness, Happiness and victory’.
Sri Lanka Insurance Chairman Hemaka Amarasuriya, Managing Director Bangsa Jayah and Executive Director P.P.J. Perera also participated in the program.
