Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps emerge Champions for 7th consecutive time

The grand finale of the Sri Lanka Army Inter Regiment Rugby Tournament 2017 concluded on 28 July at the Racecourse Ground, Colombo 7. Except for the final match all other matches were played at the Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps Rugby Ground at Panagoda. 

 

A special 10-a-Side exhibition friendly match was played between the Pakistan Army Team vs. Sri Lanka Army Rugby Chairman’s Team before the final match. Sri Lank Army General Service Corps emerged as Champions for the seventh consecutive time whilst Sri Lanka Signal Corps became Runners-Up of the entire tournament.   

zxcEach year 16 Regiments take part in the tournament. However, this year only 15 Regiments took part. The tournament took place in two segments as League and Knock-out matches. After 21 exciting league matches for the first segment, the 15 teams were lined up for the Knock Out in the second segment. The knock-out segment saw seven exciting matches which lined up the finals teams for Shield, Bowl, Plate and Cup Championships of the tourney.

Cup Semi Finals:

Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps Vs Sri Lanka Army Service Corps and Sri Lanka Signal Corps vs. Sri Lanka Army Ordinance Corp

Plate Semi Finals:

Gamunu Watch Vs Gajaba Regiment and Sri Lanka Singha Regiment vs. Sri Lanka Light Infantry

Bowl Semi Finals:

Sri Lanka Armoured Corp Vs Sri Lanka National Guards and Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment vs. Sri Lanka Corp of Military Police

Shield Semi Finals:

Sri Lanka Artillery vs. By and Sri Lanka Engineers vs. Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers

Shield Finals: played between Sri Lanka Artillery vs. Sri Lanka Engineers and Sri Lanka Artillery became champions whilst Sri Lanka Engineers became runners up.

Bowl Finals: played between Sri Lanka Armoured Corp vs. Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and Sri Lanka Armoured Corp became champions whilst Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment emerged as runners up.

Plate Finals: played between Sri Lanka Light Infantry vs. Gamunu Watch and Sri Lanka Light Infantry became champions whilst Gamunu Watch emerged as runners up

Cup Finals: Match for the overall third place was played between Sri Lanka Army Service Corps vs. Sri Lanka Army Ordinance Corps and Sri Lanka Army Service Corps became third in the overall tournament.

Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps emerged as Champions for the seventh consecutive time whilst Sri Lanka Signal Corps became Runners Up of the entire tournament.
