SLC conducts ‘Fitness Trainers’ Workshop for Clubs and Schools

The SLC ‘Coach Education Unit’ successfully conducted a ‘Fitness Trainers’ workshop at the Max Cricket Academy in Kettarama yesterday.

The SLC National Strength and Conditioning department conducted this workshop with the intention of educating ‘Fitness Trainers/Cricket Coaches’ of a training program one should have in place for Cricketers related to Cricket specifics.

SLC who has the services of fully qualified Strength and Conditioning Coaches viz: Arjan Nalliah and Darshan Weerasinghe, does believe that the knowledge one has should be shared with Clubs and Schools if we are to enhance the physical conditioning of our Cricketers and if they are to reach their best potential in the future.  The education program covered areas such as the physiological fitness requirements of batting, fast bowling and spin bowling. Pre habilitation exercises to reduced injury rates and improve performance.  Strength and Conditioning programs specific to different phases of training were also discussed and demonstrated, for example off season verses pre competition phase. The focus of the program was to enhance the level of knowledge of Strength and Conditioning coaches in practical and hands on manner.

The participants comprised of ‘Premier Tier (A) Clubs’ / U.19 Division one schools, it is also intended to take this message throughout the Country to Districts and Provinces in the coming year.
