Sri Lanka A finished the rain-affected first day of the first unofficial Test against New Zealand A on 115 for 3, thanks in part to an unbeaten 49 from Kaushal Silva. Rain delayed the start of the match and then returned to interfere after 21 overs, before impeding play for a third and final time in the afternoon. Only 40 overs were possible in the day. Kusal Perera’s lean trot with the bat did not improve, as he was caught behind for 2 off Mark Gillespie during the fifth over of the day. Gillespie also trapped captain Dinesh Chandimal in front for 6, to finish with the day’s best figures of 2 for 40. Corey Anderson took the other wicket, that of the opener Dimuth Karunaratne. Silva and Ashan Priyanjan had put on an unbeaten stand of 48 when stumps were drawn. Scores: Sri Lanka A 115 for 3 (Kaushal Silva 49*) vs. New Zealand A.
