Sri Lanka was drawn into Pool B alongside hosts Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines and Iran for the Asian Rugby Sevens Qualifier for the 2016 Rio Olympics, which will take place at the Hong Kong Stadium on 7 and 8 November.
The Asia Rugby Sevens Qualifiers will decide which nation will take the solitary available slot for Asia in each of the men’s and women’s competitions at next year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Japan are the defending Asian Sevens champions followed by Hong Kong (2), South Korea (3) and Sri Lanka (4)
Sri Lanka’s pool for both the Singapore Sevens and Hong Kong Asian Qualification Sevens will be announced shortly, with Head Coach Matt Turner overseeing the team.Former Thomian and Havies player Sudarshan Muthuthanthri is tipped to lead the Sevens outfit.
