Shehara Jayawardana secured her first win in the SL-H 1600cc class at The CEAT Sri Lanka Super Series final round held at the Pannala Race Track last weekend after entering the class just over a year ago in 2015.
The SL-H 1600cc event is one of the fastest events in the Sri Lankan motor racing platform and Shehara missed out on taking the top step on multiple occasions throughout the season due to bad luck and technical issues. However in the last race of the season she had a goal set and nothing was going to stop her. Shehara who qualified on pole position on Saturday went on to lead the race on Sunday from start to finish comfortably and take the best driver award for the day as well for Team Mobil.
Susantha Gunawaradana, another driver sponsored by Mobil, went on to grab victory in his Ford Laser in the Group - SL N Ford Laser/Mazda 1300 CC event.
It was a delightful day for the De Silva family as Shehara’s father, Rohan de Silva, a veteran in the sport, made a one-off appearance and was able to secure a podium finish as well.
Rohan once again proved that age is no barrier when he saw himself among the top three soon after starting the race in fourth where he qualified on Saturday. He eventually finished the race second in the SLA - up to 1050cc event to give Team Mobilits their third podium finish of the day.
Overall a great day and year of racing for Team Mobil.
