Shanogeeth leads Trinity at cricket

Trinity “Lion” and Sri Lanka youth poolist Shanogeeth Shanmuganathan will lead Trinity College, Kandy in their inter-school cricket season 2016/2017 which will commence later this month. He will have another Sri Lanka youth player Hasitha Boyagoda as his deputy. There will be only two seniors from last year’s squad – Boyagoda and Thisiru Dilshan. Dilshan too toured England with the Sri Lanka under-19 team and will be a bonus for the team.

Both Shanogeeth and Hasitha passed the 1000-run mark last season. There will be some quality feeders from the under-17 team who will be promoted to the first XI outfit this year. They are Ruvin Pieiris, Kalana de Zoya, Vimukhi Nethumal, Poorna Wanasekera, Hasitha Jayasuriya, Trevon Percival, Avishka Senadheera, Batiya Dissanayake, Osanda Herath, Buvanaka Ekanayake, Thiyagaraja Banugophan, Mohamed Suhaib, Chanuka Bandara and Tharanga Dahanayake will be battling for their spot in the senior team which is a dream for these cricketers.

Kavinda Jayasuriya will be their Head Coach once again for the Trinity “Lions” in 2016/2017.

Kavinda played for Trinity from 2007 to 2011. In his final year under the leadership of Akila Jayasundera, Kavinda scored 750 plus runs. Playing club cricket, he represented Kandy Youth Cricket Club and Kandy Cricket Club. Kavinda will have former Trinity skipper Rushan Jaleel, Vishanga Vithanage and Dilka Panagoda as his deputy to support the outfit. Shane de Silva will operate as the Prefect of Games with Kulatunga as the MIC for the outfit this year. Trinity opened the season with a first innings win over St. Servatius, Matara.
