Sangamitta emerge Central Province hockey champs

By Shamseer Jaleel Sangamitta Balika Vidyalaya Matale became the Central Province School Girls’ Under 19 Hockey Champions when they defeated St Anthony’s Girls’ College Kandy 2-1 at the University Grounds in Peradeniya. The tournament was organised by the Department of Education of the Central Province. At halftime the scores were tied 1-1. For Sangamitta Balika Vidyalaya, skipper Nawanjana Ekanayake and Sandaruwani Jayaratne scored two goals. For the Katugastota Antonian girls Sandunika Devagiri scored before halftime. The game was umpired by J.Prakash and Nadaraja Paraneetharan. All three schools from the Central province - Sangamitta Balika Vidyalaya, St Anthony’s Girls College and Pushpadana Girls College - have now qualified to play in the hockey event of the National School Games.
