Sachin De Silva shun at this year’s championship, played brilliant golf over three days (78, 73, 82) to clinch the title for the second time.
He had a total aggregate gross score of 233, and took the win by 11 shots. Tight play was evident for runner up position on the final day of play, between Zaffar Sikkandar and Chalitha Pushpika, however Chalitha Pushpika ended as runner up of the championship by five shots.
Also Sachin De Silva won his age group category Gold division (age group category 15–17 years) with Chalitha Pushpika being first runner up with a total score of 244, second runner up was R. Illeirajah with a score of 270 and third runner up Shamani Jagoda, the only girl golfer to have top finish in the tournament.
In the Silver Division (11-14 years group category) Prashan Peiris of St. Thomas Prep, played brilliant golf over three days (76, 77, 72) to win the division over Ishira Fernando (83, 83, 82) who also played well, but had to concede as the second.
G. Dhanaranjan of Kandy came third with a total score of 281 and in fourth place was Armand Flamer Caldera with a total of 289. The three-day Sri Lanka Junior golf Championship was sponsored by ‘Prima Sunrise Bread’ and organised by the Sri Lanka Golf Union (SLGU).
Ceylon Agro Industries General Manager Shun Tian Shing and Sri Lanka Golf Union President Ana Punchihewa, gave away the awards and it was announced for the first time the Regional Junior opens to be played in Kandy and Nuwara Eliya in year 2013 which is to be organised by the Sri Lanka Golf Union with generous sponsorship by Ceylon Agro Industries promoters of Prima ‘Sunrise Bread’.
