S. Thomas’ beats St. Peter’s to win first ever Nationals Schools Tennis title

S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia won the National Schools Games Boys title for the first time yesterday at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association, Colombo, beating St. Peter's College, Bambalapitiya. The unseeded Thomians beat third seeded Ananda in the quarter finals, second seeded Royal in the semi-finals and the top seeds and defending champion Peterites, two matches to one, in the finals. The results were as follows: N. Nadarajah (SPC) beat Amandha Gunawardene (STC), Venuka Hulangamuwa and Avishka Perera (STC) beat Chehan Fernando and Sanjiv Mohankumar (SPC) and Jerique Rajapakse (STC) beat Nabeel Sabri (SPC) This was the first time S. Thomas’ even qualified for the final of this event which has been conducted for over twenty years. The Thomians were captained by Venuka Hulangamuwa this year with Avishka Perera as his Deputy.
