Ronny to coach Air Force in rugby

Former Kingswood, Kandy SC, Police SC fly half and former Head Coach of Navy SC, Havelocks SC and Indian Rugby team, Ronny Ibrahim will take charge of the Sri Lanka Air Force rugby outfit in 2017/2018.

Ronny represented the Randles Hill School (1983-87) leading his outfit in 1986. During his school leadership Kingswood did well in the League and Premadasa trophy to end as the losing semifinalist to Trinity outfit led by Tyrelle Rajapakse. After leaving school he presented Police SC at rugby before taking up a coaching career. He started off by coaching Kingswood in 2000. He produced some outstanding outfits at Randles Hill where they ended as triple champions. Then he moved to Colombo to Coach Thomians before taking over Navy, Indian Rugby and then Havies being his last assignment. During his Havies assignment he looked after Science College as well. At national level he was in charge of the Sri Lanka Sevens outfit which toured China. In the fifteens rugby he took Sri Lanka to a landmark win over Poland at Serendib Cup which was a landmark win for the country where Poland is well ahead in World Rugby Rankings. He was assistant to George Simpkin during the Under 20 tour to Pakistan with the Junior national outfit. Speaking to Daily FT Ronny said, “I want to take Air Force rugby to next level. They are a disciplined lot and a few of them played rugby at school level. We will be taking in some school levers and look forward to a good season.
