Brandix casual wear Rideegama and Brandix intimate apparel Welisara shared top honours at the Men’s and Women’s finals of the ‘Brandix Rasadiya Kusalanaya’ (Brandix Mercury Trophy) volleyball championship at the Sugathadasa indoor stadium recently.
The Rideegama team took the Men’s trophy beating the Welisara team for 22-25, 25-22 and 25-17 in a power-packed final before 5,000 vocal Brandix associates, bringing to a grand climax a tournament conducted in March and April by Sri Lanka’s single largest apparel exporter.
The Women’s trophy was won by Brandix intimate apparel Welisara, which beat Brandix casual wear Rideegama, 15-13, 12-15, 15-13 in a closely contested match.
The ‘Brandix Rasadiya Kusalanaya’ tournament by far the largest ever conducted by a private sector entity in the country now in its third year, saw the participation of more than 700 making up 36 Men’s teams and 25 Women’s teams representing strategic business units of the Brandix Group in Sri Lanka and India.
“Team work is critical to success in our business and this tournament helps foster unity and team spirit, while encouraging healthy competition,” Brandix Group Human Resources Manager Colonel Sujith Jayasekara.
“It also promotes an interest in sports and gives thousands of our employees and their families something exciting to look forward to.”
Conducted annually for all non-executive associates of the Brandix Group, the Brandix Rasadiya Kusalanaya tournament permits each business unit to field one Men’s and one Women’s team, with each team comprising of 10 players and two reserves.
Preliminary rounds are conducted at cluster level after which each cluster sends one Men’s and one Women’s champion team to the semi-finals.
The Brandix Group comprises of over 43,000 employees at 42 manufacturing plants in Sri Lanka, at a 1,000 acre industrial park in India and a large operation in Bangladesh.
