Rahula College with 426 points and Sujatha College with 623 points dominated the boys and girls events at the 4th Matara District short course Age Group Swimming Championship organised by the Aquatic Sports Association of St. Servatius College.
Brilliant Star International with 226 points and St. Mary’s Convent with 125 points were distant second while St. Servatius College (197 points) and Shariputhra MV (44 points) was placed third. Minister of Southern Development Sagala Rathnayaka was the chief guest at the awards presentation. More than 500 swimmers representing 26 schools in the Matara and Hambantota Districts competed at this year’s meet held over two days at the Rahula College swimming pool.
The following were adjudged champions in their respective age groups and received their trophies from Municipal Councilor Raj Chandralal.
Under 8: Girls – Nisindi Gamage (St Mary’s Convent); Boys – Muhammed Faham (Brilliant Star International)
Under 10: Girls – Senisa Dahamdi Guruge (Sujatha Vidyalaya); Boys – H B I Dhanusara (St. Thomas College Matara)
Under 12: Girls – K G Methuli (Sujatha Vidyalaya); Boys – Abdur Rahaman Faham (Brilliant Star International)
Under 14: Girls – M Ashini Indula (Shariputhra MV); Boys – Himaz Baslin (Rahula College)
Under 16: Girls – Rubhaya Inthaj (Sujatha Vidyalaya); Boys – Yoshitha Dinuk (Rahula College)
Under 18: Girls – K P Nethmi Siyathma (Sujatha Vidyalaya); Boys – Damithya Liyanage (Rahula College)
