Prima to sponsor Sri Lanka Junior Golf Championship 2012

This year’s Sri Lanka Junior Open Golf championship, sponsored for the fifth consecutive year by ‘Prima Sunrise Bread’ will be held from 19 to 21 December, 2012  at the Royal Colombo Golf Club, morning play.

The tournament is open to both boys and girls under the age of 18 years and, has gained immense popularity serving as a platform for the Sri Lanka Golf Union to identify potential talent to play at the national level. Ranked the most prestigious tournament for young golfers in Sri Lanka and over 60 players are expected to battle it out for top honours demonstrating the growing popularity of the sport. Sri Lanka Junior Open Championship was first played in year 1975.

Those who did well as past champions at this tournament Mithun Perera, Binupa Wijesinghe, Lalith Kumara, Tissa Chandradasa and Dhanika De Silva have turned into Sri Lanka’s top golfers.

The tournament will be conducted according to the following age groups; age group 15-17 years (Gold division) age group 11-14 years (Silver division) and age group 10 and under (Bronze division).

The overall winner will be declared the Sri Lanka Junior National Golf Champion for the year 2012.

Prima Sunrise Bread has committed to sponsor this tournament for the fifth consecutive year and has extended the sponsorship this year to the Regional Junior Golf Open as well. Prima Sunrise Bread pledges to build a long term relationship in promoting golf among youth and uplifting the standard of junior golf in Sri Lanka. This year’s tournament is set to see the emerging new talents, and high standards of golf among the juniors.
