The nation’s largest ever school level sporting festival in the country namely the All Island School Games 2011 just concluded with much fanfare and success.
The entire exercise was a joint effort of the Education Ministry and the Prima Group Prima which implemented a highly effective blueprint towards elevating the status of sports amongst students in the country.
Gracing the occasion were D. M. Jayaratne Prime Minister Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Bandula Gunawardena, Minister for Higher Education. The All Island School Games 2011 recorded the highest ever participation of school students from across the country and were held in three exciting stages. The third leg and final stage was held in Diyagama on the 3rd of October 2011 at the Mahinda Rajapaksha Sports Grounds.
A total of 1567 schools were represented with 12,843 players and 5,134 athletes participating in the entire programme. Over 22 athletic records were bettered during the entire meet.
According to Prima Group, Prima has always been a firm supporter of young sporting talent and in a bid to encourage a healthy lifestyle and a competitive spirit has come on board as a major sponsor of such an event for the second consecutive year. The returns have been visible with enthusiastic participation, surging crowds and the emergence of new talent.
Prima Group was one of the proud sponsors of the event and as an added support to the young sporting enthusiasts’ they were provided with wheat nutrition via Prima noodles for all participants. While students got an opportunity to showcase their talent they also enjoyed a fair share of excitement and competition for the second consecutive year with the substantial backing of the Prima Group.
