President Mahinda Rajapaksa over the weekend kicked off the nation’s biggest campaign, Visi Vara Jaya Nada, to build support for the national cricket team at the upcoming ICCT20 World Championship played in Sri Lanka.
Visi Vara Jaya Nada is an ambitious campaign that unites the four corners of the island enabling the nation to show their support and give their wishes to the Local T20 Cricket team as they prepare to do battle on 18 September and do the nation proud, the organisers of the campaign said.
Twenty 10-foot stumps would be paraded around the island inviting the public to sign the stumps to show their support.
The President inaugurated the campaign by signing the stumps first and gave his blessings to the campaign.
The Sri Lanka Cricket Board, several celebrities and sports heroes of the nation have come forward and build national momentum to support and stand behind the national players in a campaign that promises to have national significance.
The campaign would be carried out through various towns covering the entire island and ending in Colombo on 17 September.
The route of the wickets as they make their journey would be announced via live updates on Sri Lanka’s premier sports channel Carlton Sports Network (CSN) and Neth FM, one of Sri Lanka’s leading radio stations, who have partnered the event as media sponsors.
CSN is the official TV Channel for telecasting the T20 world cup live once the tournament commences.
The national mobile telecommunication company, Mobitel has partnered the campaign event as main sponsor. Mandarine BTL, an agency renowned for organising successful campaigns at national level organised the event.
CSN CEO Nishantha Ranatunga, Marketing Director Prasanna Jayasundara, Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel CEO Lalith DeSilva and Madarin BTL CEO Rizwan Musafer were present at the occasion.
