Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says it is the responsibility of the government as well as public to support youth who excel in sports towards earning honors internationally.
The Prime Minister revealed plans to launch a special institution next year to promote sports and improve facilities for sports in the country.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the National Sports Festival held at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Diyagama, the PM announced that the Government plans to establish a separate institution for the development of sports.
Recalling that the Sports Minister has referred to the problems of sports coaches, the Prime Minister emphasised the need to resolve these problems.
The Prime Minister said that the government’s target is to make Sri Lankans excel in sports, achieve a prominent place in the world and make the country proud.
Sports is a talent and the Government as well as the country recognises it . Furthermore it is the responsibility of the Government as well as the Private Sector to create a future for such talented youth.
The Western Province grabbed the island wide trophy of the Sports Festival which was held for three days. Several Parliamentarians including Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara joined the closing ceremony.
