The MCA ‘Centenary Year’ 2011 ‘C’ division 50 over League Tournament to be played on turf wickets will get off to a rousing start on Saturday, April 30 with the old foes, David Peiris Motor Company Limited taking on Arpico SC in the opener at the FTZ ground Katunayake.Arpico and DPMC will be playing in this division for the first time, having earned their due promotions being the 2010 ‘D’ division winners and runners-up respectively.
The other new comer to the division is Stafford Motors who have been demoted from division ‘B.’
The other three teams are, Raigam Marketing, HSBC ‘A’ and Suntel who retain their positions.
The tournament will be conducted in a single group league (6 teams) from Saturday, April 30 to May 22 (both days inclusive), consisting of 15 matches, spread around the FTZ ground, Katunayake, Bloomfield, Moratuwa Stadium, Colts and Moors grounds.
At the completion of the round-robin, the first four teams that emerge in the points table will advance to the semi finals, which have been scheduled for May 28 at the Moratuwa Stadum and Moors grounds.
The final has been fixed for June 4 to be played at the Colts ground.
The four special awards on offer are for the best batsman, bowler, man of the tournament and man of the final.
Last year, L.B. Finance won the title beating Commercial Bank ‘A’. The tournament is bound to generate fierce competition as all the teams are studded with top club players. (BM)
