Playing a clever run and pass game, the fitter, Old Bens SC led by Waldo Fernando romped to a three-nil win over Old Mazenodians to lift the Sir Albert Fernando Memorial Trophy and square the  series, in their fourth Annual  Over-40 Soccer Encounter at Kotahena on Sunday.

Old Bens opened scoring early in the first half through their striker Sisira Kumar Perera and followed with a penalty kick award for an infringement inside the box, booted in by Donald Fernando to take a commanding two-nil lead at half time.

The Bens playing a relaxed game in the second half, put the issue beyond doubt with their third goal, when  Bertram Costa  found the net off a stinging kick from the top of the box, off a  good  move initiated by Nishantha Perera.

Old Ben, Anura de Silva, the Assistant CEO/FFSL, who was match commissioner –cum-adjudicator, picked Sisira Kumara Perera from Old Bens as his men-of-the-match.

Former  OBSC President and  Captain  of SBC 1967 unbeaten  Soccer Team,  Thilak Peiris was the Chief Guest and  he along with the incumbent OBSC President,  Tony Ganlath  and  Rev. Bro.  Director, SBC game away the awards at the post match presentation.

The Old Bens with regular practices at their home grounds has now become an unbeatable side. They are the  reigning  all–island Masters  Soccer Champions and  recently  proved  their worth by beating  the visiting  Malaysian Ex-National and State Players Associations XI  by three goals to nil at the FFSL grounds,  Kelaniya.
