The sound of hooves thundering down the racetrack to an audience on their feet cheering and applauding is what racegoers can look forward to tomorrow (23 April) as the Royal Turf Club hosts it third event of the April Horse Racing Festival. Spectators at the racecourse are estimated to be over 5,000 for this event with a live telecast to over one million people, making it one of the most watched events in sports.
The Royal Turf Club, a club recently formed under the guiding principles of good governance, free, fair, ethical and drug – free racing has already hosted three incredibly successful events and always races with horse welfare in mind.
Formed with the objectives of opening horse racing to all, RTC has brought in International racing rules aimed at, eradication of mismanagement, animal cruelty and doping. The Royal Turf Club (RTC) is managed by renowned veteran racing CEO Wayne Wood who has worked in over 163 Race courses world-wide. Since its inception the RTC has steadily promoted the formation of new clubs and has encouraged old clubs to run races under the new club rules. The Sri Lanka Anti-Doping Agency will be testing horses again at the 23rd races.
The races on 23 April will feature not only “edge of your seat” race entertainment but a host of activities including carnival area for children and other entertainment as well making it a complete fun day out for the whole family. Fashion shows with renowned designers, Amilani Perera, Vathsala Gunesekera, Anushika Perera and Zhudora will delight spectators as will the sultry music of famed Sri Lankan singer Natasha Rathnayake.
Exciting prizes will be awarded to the Best Dressed Lady, Best Dressed Gentleman and Best Hat among others. Winners of these prizes which included a gold and black diamond pendant by luxury jewellers Sifani were won by racegoers. Come and be a part of an exciting day of family fun at the Nuwara Eliya racecourse on 23 April from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
