LONDON: At the Wimbledon Champion’s Dinner, the gentleman who defended his title this year danced with the lady who’d won her sixth title a day ago.
On Sunday evening, the action had clearly moved from the Centre Court to the dance floor at London’s Guildhall and Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams were shaking to the Bee Gee’s Night Fever at the 2015 Champions’ Dinner.
Wimbledon used to have its gentlemen’s and ladies’ winners dance for one song at the ball, but that practice was discontinued in 1977.
This year the champions decided to revive it... and the Djoker did it with his wife’s blessings.
Jelena Djokovic tweeted: Hey @serenawilliams Novak just asked me for a permission to ask you for a champions dance tonight. Get ready!
Serena Williams, who won her sixth Wimbledon trophy and 21st major on Saturday, tweeted a link to a photo of her and Novak Djokovic at Sunday’s dinner, and wrote: “congrats @DjokerNole we brought back the dance!”
