Former Kingswood, Kandy SC, Navy and Sri Lanka sevens sensation, Nilfer Ibrahim will be appointed as the Head Coach of the Joes rugby outfit in the near future. He will take charge of the side for the 2015/2016 rugby season.
Nilfer ended his three year contract with Isipathana College on a very high note. In 2014 “Green Shirts” won the triple under Senal Deelaka. In his second year it was that dynamic leader “Omalka Gunaratne” leadership but unfortunate as they ended as the second best in all the tournament they took part.
This year they were under Kasun Indunil winning the league and knock out championship. Nilfer who started his coaching career at Kandy SC looking after the sevens outfit. In schools he coached Dharmaraja, Kingswood and Trinity. He was also in charge of the Sri Lanka Under 18 rugby tour for the Youth Commonwealth Games Isle of Man a few years back.
His last assignment at national level was as the Head Coach of the Sri Lanka sevens outfit at the Asian Sevens where he took the home team to Number 3 position. Joes did well in the recently concluded Sri Lanka Super sevens rugby 2016 first leg by becoming runner-up in the first leg which took place at the Racecourse grounds last weekend.
