Navy walked away with the Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU) Super 7s title at Police Park last weekend.
The tournament was sponsored by South Asian Gateway Terminals (SAGT). There were 23 teams taking part in the well organised tournament, which saw several enthusiastic rugby supporters file into Police Park.
Navy ‘A’ beat Havelocks ‘A’ 32-10 in the Cup finals. At halftime the Sailors led 15-5. Dinusha Chathuranga (2) and Saliya Handapangoda scored for Navy while national youth player Shamry Buarh touched down for Havies’ only try before halftime. In the second half Lee Keegal recorded two tries for Havies while Lasintha Karunthilake scored their second try.
The WPRFU is headed by former Sri Lanka Sevens Skipper and Secretary of the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) Nazeem Mohamed with former Sri Lanka Fifteens player Hafeez Marso serving as the WPRFU Deputy President.
