Sri Lanka Navy ‘A’ team won the first ever Surf-boat regatta, held at the Mt. Lavinia Beach recently, beating eight teams representing Universities, Rowing clubs and the Army. Surf Boat rowing, an internationally popular sport, was introduced to Sri Lanka in 2012, through the aegis of the Secretariat for Indian Ocean Marine Affairs Co-operation (IOMAC). The event was concluded amongst a large gathering of sports enthusiasts.
Among the highlights of the day was a special Boat Race for the fishing community in 15 and 20 hp categories. Over 20 boats participated in this event and a very keen interest was shown by the fishing community in the area.
