Namal leads Sri Lanka at Serendib International Cup 2013

Farook Lantra The inaugural 15-a-side international Rugby Tournament Serendib International Cup 2013 will be staged at the Race Course Grounds from 26 October to 1 November by the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU). The International Rugby Board (IRB) has announced details of an exciting new competition to be hosted by Sri Lanka and featuring Madagascar and Poland which will be played under floodlights. The SLRFU has joined hands with THE MTV Sports Network, which is part of THE Capital Maharaja organization, to inaugurate the tournament. SLRFU President Asanga Seneviratne said: “Size and strength make to do with great heart.” He also acknowledged the appointment of Namal Rajapaksa, MP as the new international team captain. “Namal is a born leader and everyone should pull together,” Seneviratne said, adding, “Selectors have done well.” The SLRFU has also appointed former Navy Coach Ronnie Ibrahim as Head Coach of the national side. Seneviratne also commended Capital Maharaja and the MTV Network for coming on board as pioneer broadcaster of this tournament and Dialog Axiata, who are currently the official sponsors of Sri Lanka National Team. SLRFU envisions the Serendib International Tournament to be a world class affair.
