Nagenahira Nagas (NN) clinched their second victory in the Mahindra Sri Lanka Premier League beating Kandurata Warrirors last night by seven wickets.

With its win, NN moves to top of the table with 4 points.

In response to Kandurata Warriors (KW) score of 159 for 7, NN scored 160 with three balls to spare.

NN’s two Pakistani openers, Shehzad and Nazir gave the team a good start putting a 85 run partnership. Man of the Match Nasir scored a blistering 58 off 32 balls with five sixes and four 4s. NN’s captain Angelo Mathews ensured victory with a quick fire 42 off 36 balls.

Earlier Kandurata Warriors which won the toss and elected to bat first managed to put up a defendable score thanks to a power packed 72 runs in 33 balls by Thisara Perera comprising four 6s and six 4s.

NN bowlers Ajantha Mendis, S.S. Pathirana and B Laughlin took two wickets each to restrict Kandurata Warriors.

In post match comments Kandurata Captain Tilan Samaraweera said: Did not bat well first 10 overs, then Perera played rather well. Then we did not field too well. I think we lack in bowling upfront and in the death, batting wise we need fire at the top. Hopefully Jayasuriya will be fit to play and Perera will be fit to bowl four overs.”

Winning team’s Captain Mathews said: “Couldn’t have asked for any better, bowlers did well in the first half and then the openers batted well. Pretty good performance overall.”
