Mithun Perera of SLPA leads to reach 27 in Asian rankings

Prominent Golfer Mithun Perera of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) has risen to 27 in the Asian ranking from 37, following two successful tours in India and Philippines. He has also come 9th in the Indian ranking list. Early this month he successfully concluded the Hero Indian Open of the Asian Tour at the Delhi Golf Club with 70-72-68-68 at minus 10. The winner, Bangladesh’s Siddikur, finished at 66-66-67-75 at minus 14. The Hero Indian Open (Golf) is India’s longest running international sports competition and is held annually on the Asian Tour. Started in 1964, it has now been held for 49 years and celebrates its golden jubilee in 2013. It is the flagship event of Indian golf. In 2013, the Asian Tour will celebrate a momentous milestone with its 10th season. As the official sanctioning body for professional golf in Asia, the Asian Tour leads the development of golf across the region, enhancing the careers of its members while maintaining a commitment to the integrity of the game. The Asian Tour, through its membership of the International Federation of PGA Tours, is the only recognised pan-Asian professional golf tour in Asia. This unique feature positions the Asian Tour at the pinnacle of professional golf in Asia; providing its events with Official World Ranking status. “I strongly aim at a win because I well believe I have a good chance as the game is in good shape,” Mithun said. Meanwhile Mithun scored 69-67-71-69 at a total of 276 at minus 12. At The Resorts World Manila Masters on Sunday at Manila in Philippines China’s Liang Wen-Chong won with a 67-69-67-69 totalling 272 at minus 16. The Resorts World Manila Masters is title sponsored by Resorts World Manila with the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club as the official host venue. Other sponsors include Nike Golf, BMW, Sony, Asia Brewery, Canon, PLDT, Remington Hotel, Marriott Manila and media partner Business Mirror. Following his success at the two Mithun is leaving overseas for several championships that include the Indonesian Open, Hong Kong Open, Thailand Championship and the Indian Tour Championship of which will continue till 30 December this year.
