The 47th Mercantile Rugby sevens and the 2nd Women’s Tag Rugby Tournament will be worked off at the Race Course rugby grounds from 21 to 23 July.
Two sponsors, South Asia Gateway Terminal (SAGT) and Jaguar Land Rover, will prop up this mega event along with the Mercantile Rugby Association. This will be the first time that Mercantile Rugby Football Association (MRFA) has shifted its venue from Longdon Place to Race Course grounds.
The draw for the tournament will take place on 17 July. Nearly 50 teams are expected to participate this year.
In the 2016 tournament where 32 teams participated, Access Group regained the Cup after 16 years, beating Dialog Axiata A. Nation Lanka Finance won the Plate. John Keells B accounted for the Bowl. Brandix grabbed the Shield and Ceylon Tobacco won the inaugural Women’s Tag Rugby tournament.
