Former Anandian wicket keeper and batsman, 48-year-old Ashley Ratnayake from Lanka Bell was unanimously elected as the 37th President of the Mercantile Cricket Association at the 95th Annual General Meeting held at the MCA recently.
Ratnayake, who entered MCA in 1996, was the General Secretary in 2005 and 2006, then Vice President there onwards until taking high office.
Office bearers for the period 2012/2013 (all unanimously elected) are Ashley Ratnayake from Lanka Bell (Pvt.) Ltd (President), Gamini Wickramasinghe from Hatton National Bank, Niran Mahawatte from NDB Bank and Roshan Iddamalgoda from ETI Com (Pvt.) Ltd. (Vice Presidents), Rohana Dissanayake from David Pieris Motor Co. (General Secretary), Wasanthalal Fernando from the John Keells Group (Assistant Secretary), H.U.U. Buddhima from Prestige Automobile (Pvt.) Ltd. (Treasurer) and Nalin Wickramasinghe from Commercial Bank PLC (Assistant Treasurer)
Elected firms and representatives are Glaxo SmithKline – Ishak Sahabdeen, Sri Lankan Airlines – Sujeewa De Silva, D. Samson & Sons (Pvt.) Ltd. – Rohan Somawansa, Singer Sri Lanka PLC – Thushan Amarasuriya and Touchwood Investments PLC – Asitha Koralage. Tournament Committee Chairman is Mahesh De Alwis from Union Assurance PLC
