Marija tipped to lead Sri Lanka rugby team

By Shamseer Jaleel Sri Lanka Sevens specialist and Kandy skipper and fly-half Fazil Marija is tipped to lead the national team for the Asian Four Nations tournament which will take place in the Philippines from 3 to 9 May. The National Selections Committee, headed by Micheal Jayasekera, selected a pool of 40 players who will be involved in a practice match today at the Race Course rugby grounds. The training sessions, which will be led by Kandy Head Coach Johan Taylor, will commence on 15 April with Sean Wijesinghe chipping in as the physical trainer of the outfit. The final squad of 25 players will be selected after today’s match. The Philippines, Kazakhstan, Singapore and Sri Lanka lock horns in this tournament with the winner advancing to the top three in 2016 and the last placed side getting demoted to Division II next year.
