The six-a-side Cricfest organised by KBSL Information Technologies culminated with the team from Maliban Biscuits emerging Champions of the Tournament, beating Nations Trust Bank (NTB), at a fiercely-contested match.
The tournament began with 36 teams from a range of technology companies vying for the KBSL Cricfest cup and was played at the Shalika Grounds in the presence of cricketing legends Aravinda de Silva, Farveez Mahroof and Jeevan Mendis.
Speaking about this, KBSL Chief Executive Officer Silmy Ahamad said: “We’ve worked with most of our clients for many years, so we wanted to put together a fun event for everybody. I really appreciate everybody coming out, and making this such a competitive and fun event.”
Tharindu Siriwardena from Maliban was adjudged the ‘Best Bowler’ and ‘Best Batsman’ of the tournament, with Sriyani Rajapurage taking the title of ‘Best Female Player’. The supporters from Bileeta won the title of ‘Best Cheering Group’ for their support shown to their team on the field.
Winning the toss, Maliban opted to field first, with defenders, NTB scoring 48 runs for the loss of four wickets by the end of the six overs. Shane Pradeep (of team NTB) scored 17 runs, while Sampath Srilal and Thiwanka Dabare scored seven and 11 points respectively. Chasing the score, Amila from team Maliban scored 23 runs, while Tharindu Siriwardena scored six runs. Combined with 20 extras, this led to a total score of 49 runs for team Maliban.
Apart from the matches, the festivities included a mega fair, with trade stalls, game zone, mobile salon and entertainment for all the participating companies and their families.
